My novel, “Unexpecting,” was entered into the 21st Annual Writer’s Digest Self Published Book Awards and I recently received the judge’s reply! I was extremely excited to learn that “Unexpecting” received a rating of 5 (the highest possible) in ALL of the categories!
Once I got past the disappointment of somehow receiving the highest possible scores and glowing remarks from the judge, yet not fully winning the award, I’ve decided to celebrate because in my opinion, receiving such glowing remarks from such a highly respected industry establishment is still an honor.
JUDGE’S RANKING AND COMMENTARY ON “UNEXPECTING” IN THE WRITER’S DIGEST BOOK AWARDS
Structure and Organization: 5

Production Quality and Cover Design: 5
Plot: 5
Character Development: 5
Judge’s Commentary:
“UNEXPECTING by Lori Verni-Fogarsi is a novel that women will love no matter what their stage of life, but the story will really touch the hearts and minds of empty nesters!
I think the cover is just great! Love the lady’s hands tossing wine, coffee, and a baby bottle. A perfect illustration! Shows the spirit of the book, too. I really like how the book has a glowing endorsement right at the top of the back cover. The story is well told in the back cover copy. The author bio is great. I like how she lets people know where to find her on the Internet. The author photo is clear and sharp. The reader discussion guide is a nice touch. Great job!
Lovely page of praise for the author’s work. Adds credibility. I am also interested in MOMNESIA. The author was very savvy to advertise her work in such a prominent and interesting way. This is an author who plans to make a career of her writing and I think she will.
I was drawn into her story right away. This may be partially because I’m squarely in her target audience. I can only imagine how I would feel if my situation changed so suddenly. Oh wait. I don’t have to imagine. I can read UNEXPECTING! But no matter what stage of life a woman is in, this book is entertaining. Anyone can relate to sudden and “let’s face it” change, whether welcome or unwelcome, and finding ways to cope with change is a part of life.
All in all, this is a very entertaining read. I am going to recommend this one to my friends.”
Thanks for stopping by to help me celebrate my positive review from Writer’s Digest!
