We writers often find inspiration from unusual places… strangers at the post office, people we know a bit better than that, and so on.
When I was writing “Unexpecting,” one of the characters I had a lot of fun with was Tiny, the dog. In comical contrast to his name, he’s a big goofball of a dog and of course, there is an actual dog I’ve known, named Otto, who inspired the character of Tiny.
Otto was the dog of a close friend of mine named Randy. Although he is now “over the rainbow bridge,” he will live on forever, as Tiny in “Unexpecting!”
Here are a few photos of Otto over the years. Special thanks to Randy, who spent much time and effort finding these photos, scanning them in, and sending them to me!
“Unexpecting” was published on April 19, 2013, and you can learn about it, including a free preview here: www.LoriTheAuthor.com/Unexpecting.

Lori my friend has a dog who looks strikingly similar to Otto and that’s who I pictured as Tiny as I read. Pretty close match. And again Congrats on the book, but mostly for following your dreams!

Thanks Kelly! Keep an eye out, because over the summer I’m planning on doing an event where people can submit photos of dogs they visualized as Tiny!
