You know how sometimes you find an item that may seem small, but actually makes your life just a teeny bit (or even a whole lot) better? And then you feel compelled to tell your friends because you want them to enjoy it too? Me too! That’s why I decided to take some time today to write a blog post about some of my favorite Little Things That Make Life Better!
1. Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Soil. Why does this make my life better? Living in NC, I used to have to water the plants on my porch literally every single day in the summer; if I went away for a weekend, forget it, they were dead! Last summer, I came across this potting soil and I’m telling you… I water them once a week and they’re fine! I’ve even sometimes gone longer than that! I now use my front porch planters not only for decorative flowers, but for growing fresh herbs, too! About $15 for a bag.
2. TV Listings app. Why does this make my life better? I used to have to go to the channel guide on TV and wait for that thing to scroll slowly, slowly, through all the channels to find out what’s on. I downloaded this free app from iTunes, set it up in under 30 seconds, and have my exact channel lineup at my fingertips on my iPhone. No waiting, no leafing through a paper TV guide, and you can even search for your favorite shows! Free on iTunes.
3. Frozen chopped onions. Why does this make my life better? Let’s face it, I’m busy! I like to cook nice, homemade meals for my family, but peeling and slicing a whole onion when I only need two tablespoons of chopped was sometimes a bit off-putting. I buy these bags of frozen chopped onions in the vegetable section of the supermarket and voila! Whenever I need some chopped onions, they’re ready to go! About 50 cents to $1 a bag at your local supermarket.
4. Milk frother. Why does this make my life better? Ask any coffee lover and they’re likely to agree that foamy milk in your coffee is a wonderful thing! Yet I didn’t want a whole big cappuccino machine that would be an ordeal to clean, with 100 parts, and takes up most of my kitchen counter. My little handheld milk frother is sooo cool! You just froth the milk right in a cup, then rinse the thing in the sink and you’re done! 15 seconds later, I’m having frothy milk in my coffee, right at home! Plus, they only cost about $10-$15!
5. Cover Girl Outlast Lipstick. Why does this make my life better? I really like to wear lipstick. However, I don’t like to have to reapply it a zillion times a day, have that funny looking ring when it starts to wear off, or worry about getting it all over my husband when I kiss him, or on my clothing when I get dressed, etc. I’ve tried other long-lasting brands and they were sticky and yucky. This one is great! I put it on in the morning, let it dry, and it lasts ALL DAY! Also has a sunscreen in it. Comes with a clear, smooth topcoat that I use like a lip gloss throughout the day to keep my lips shiny and moist. About $8 at any Walgreens, CVS, Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon, etc.
6. Knife sharpener. Why does this make my life better? I had no idea how hard a time I was having when cooking until my husband got me this knife sharpener last Christmas! Safe and easy to use, within seconds my knives are like brand-new! Plus, did you know that you are far more likely to cut yourself using a dull knife than a sharp one? Cooking is SO much easier, and it’s much cheaper than buying new knives! Silly as it sounds, this thing has made a huge difference! And they’re under $10!
7. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Why does this make my life better? You may have already experienced the Magic, but in case you haven’t, this cannot be overlooked! Gets off scuff marks and dirt in spots in a few easy seconds that I’ve tried for years to scrub with every product imaginable! Perfect for walls, children’s toys, outdoor furniture, bathrooms, everywhere!
